Palmetto Retina Center (PRC) is a busy, 11-physician ophthalmology practice specializing in the treatment of retina diseases, with six locations across South Carolina. We are committed to providing exceptional patient care. We are seeking a highly organized, driven, and compassionate Operations Director to lead our day-to-day front office and clinical operations. This leadership role is based out of our West Columbia office but will require travel to all PRC locations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the daily financial, personnel, and operational aspects of the front office and clinical teams while collaborating closely with physicians, supervisors, and the Practice Administrator.

Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Oversee daily front office and clinical operations, including patient scheduling, payroll, inventory, and internal controls.

Personnel Management

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and, when necessary, termination of front office and clinical staff.

  • Promote PRC’s mission and ensure staff commitment to excellence in service, attitude, and performance.

  • Address and resolve staff concerns or escalate as needed.

  • Conduct performance evaluations, manage salary reviews, and implement training programs.

  • Monitor staff performance, overtime, and absences.

Patient & Referring Physician Relations

  • Track and improve patient satisfaction; provide periodic reports and recommendations.

  • Ensure timely communication and correspondence with referring physicians.

Resource Utilization & Facilities Oversight

  • Maximize the efficiency of clinical and front office operations, staff, equipment, and supplies.

  • Arrange maintenance and repairs as needed.

Meetings & Reporting

  • Participate in organizational meetings and lead internal clinical/front office meetings, ensuring documentation and follow-up.

  • Report findings and recommendations to the Practice Administrator.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation of corporate decisions and initiatives.

  • Participate in committees and projects as requested.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • 8–10 years of experience in ophthalmology is required.

  • Proven management experience in a medical group practice.

  • Strong working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and managed care.

  • Proficient in financial oversight, reporting, and operational decision-making.

  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with physicians and staff.

  • Strong problem-solving and follow-through.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.

  • Manual dexterity to operate ophthalmic equipment.

  • Ability to write and communicate via phone.
