Palmetto Retina Center, a busy 10-physician Ophthalmology practice specializing in retina diseases, is currently seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Surgery Scheduler for a full-time position at our West Columbia Office. This position is responsible for scheduling ophthalmic surgeries, preoperative and postoperative appointments, and serving as a liaison between the patient and physician, facility, preop staff, etc. The position requires a strong understanding of retina ophthalmic practices and insurance coverage, considerable attention to detail, the ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, coworkers, and supervisors, and a willingness to assist in all areas.
  • Maintain surgical schedule for physicians.
  • Inform patients of all pre-operative testing requirements and ensure patient compliance prior to surgery.
  • Assist with financial assistance programs, SCCB or other programs as needed
  • Contact patients identified for surgery timely of a physician’s order
  • Complete all forms required by practice and surgical facility in an accurate and timely manner
  • Schedule necessary post-op visits
  • Adequately train co-workers for back-up coverage
  • Document in the patient’s chart all discussions with the patient relating to the patient’s surgery and all ongoing plans relating to the patient’s surgery
  • Confirm that all charts have clear documentation for each step of the scheduling process to eliminate any confusion by other staff/physicians.
  • Maintain efficient organization ensuring that each section is clearly labeled.
  • Work closely with clinical and front office manager regarding daily/monthly physician schedules and on –call schedules.
  • Additional Duties as Assigned

Skills & Qualifications

Minimum Demonstrated Skills/Qualifications:
  • Position requires accuracy, thoroughness, and an understanding of insurance, copy, and referral procedures.
  • Work is fast-paced and multi-tasked.
  • Requires ability to work as a team member.
  • Skill in operating computers, word processing software, fax machines, and copier machines.
  • Creative idea-generating individual with excellent follow-through abilities

Minimum Education Requirements:
  • High School diploma or its equivalent is required.
  • An associate’s degree in medical office technology, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired, is required.
  • Ophthalmic Certifications Preferred.
 
Minimum Background Requirements:
  • Prior Clinical Experience Required.
  • Prior Ophthalmic Experience Required
  • Prior Clinical Ophthalmic Experience Preferred.
  • Prior Surgery Scheduling Experience Preferred.
 
Physical requirements:
Ability to operate computer devices, frequent use of a computer terminal.  Ability to communicate via speech and hearing.  Must be able to stand, walk, bend at knees and waist, raise arms over head, & lift to 35 lbs. with or without a reasonable accommodation.
